At Pet Ear Care Center in Cupertino, CA, our doctors provide a wide range of services to help keep your pet healthy and to provide any treatment and care possible and necessary. Pets are susceptible to a wide number of conditions including those related to their ear health. When you come in to see our pet ear specialist, you’ll get exceptional service and support for any condition or concern you have. One of the services we offer has to do with biofilm.
Biofilm is a type of secretion created by bacteria. The film works to cover the ear and other areas of the pet and works as a protective layer of protection guarding the pet’s immune system from minimizing the presence of that bacteria. It also works very effectively at preventing antibiotic treatments and ear cleaners from working on pets. This makes it hard to remove the bacteria that’s inside the pet’s ears and, in many cases, causing their discomfort and pain.

If your pet struggles with constant or chronic ear infections, it could be the result of biofilm. Biofilm is present even if the ear looks as though it is clean. Over time, the bacteria present in the ear will continue to grow and develop, hidden by this protective film. And, this often leads to impaction of the ear wax and other debris within the ear. If this is left untreated, even for a short period of time, it can rupture. When that happens, it can destroy or damage the ear drum and move into the middle ear, further damaging your pet’s hearing.
When you come in to see our pet ear specialist, you’ll get a better idea if it is present. There are a few things to keep in mind though, about biofilm.
If your pet is struggling with any of these symptoms or you have been told that there is a biofilm concern, come in to see us today.
When you come in to see our pet ear specialist, we’ll perform a full exam to determine if this is present and, if so, what can be done about it. Biofilm treatment for pets is available and it can provide your animal with the relief he or she needs sooner rather than later. However, every animal’s needs are different and at-home products do not work to treat biofilm.
